Gandhi Jayanti and the First International Day of Non-Violence was celebrated by this Embassy by organizing an impressive function at Plaza Gandhi in Curicuao, Caracas, where floral tributes were offered at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.  A Venezuelan military band played the national anthem of India and Venezuela at the ceremony. Speeches on the occasion were made by Ambassador and the Vice Minister for Asia, Middle East and Oceania in the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.  Around 200 people, including representatives from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, municipalities of Caracas and Libertador, members of the diplomatic corps, media, Indian community and admirers of Mahatma Gandhi attended the function.  Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans were also played during the event.
