On 11 th July, 2006, there were eight bomb blasts on the Western line of the sub-urban railway network of the city of Mumbai in India . As a result of these bomb blasts, which took place at approximately 1830 hrs in the evening, when commuters were traveling back from work, there were approximately 185 deaths and hundreds of persons wounded. The Government of India initiated immediate investigations into the cause of the blasts and the government vowed that such dastardly terrorist attacks would not affect the country's resolve to fight the menace of terrorism which seeks to affect the social and economic progress of a multi-racial, multi-ethnic and multi-religious democracy. On the day after the attacks, trains were running normally and commuters used them to go to work. Besides, the Mumbai Stock Exchange, saw its prime index rise over 2 per cent, belying the attempt of the terrorists to depress the economy.
